About Jane Titus

Jane Titus is a New York based actress who specializes in classical theatre and cross gender acting.  She is a company member of Judith Shakespeare Company (which specializes in creating opportunities for woman to play variety of male and female roles), Actor’s Shakespeare Company and Actor’s Stock Company.  A well-established teacher on the New York scene, Jane teaches workshops in both Shakespearean text cross gender acting.

Off-Broadway, Jane portrayed the title role in “When Aunt Daphne Went Nude” and Helen Bergin in “Winchester House” for Ma Yi Theatre.  Other New York credits include Volumnia in “Coriolanus,” Prospero in “The Tempest,” Margaret in “Richard III,”  Tamara in “Titus Andronicus,” Bolingbroke/Henry IV in “Richard II,” “Henry IV, Parts 1 & 2,” and Cassius in “Julius Caesar,” Gertrude in “Hamlet” for Dreamscape Theatre and Medea in “Medea” for which the production was awarded the Critic’s Choice Award by the Off Off Broadway Review.

With New Jersey’s Actor’s Shakespeare Company, she has appeared as the Nurse in “Romeo and Juliet,” Gonzalo in “Tempest” and Petrucchio in “Taming of the Shrew.”  Regionally, she has portrayed Candida in “Candida,” Amanda in “Private Lives,” and Hedda in “Hedda Gabler,” among many other roles.

Jane has taught privately and for educational institutions from grade school through college.  She has worked as a guest or resident artist with Southern Methodist University, various high schools in New York and Dallas, Winston Preparatory School, Dallas County Youth Home and Letot Center for Teens.  She has also served as Educational Director for Actor’s Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare Festival of Dallas, Gryphon Players and Addison Centre Theatre.  She was on staff as the voice and Theatre History teacher for Mountain View Community College in their Musical Theatre Conservatory Training Program.  For several years, she was on the roster for Young Audiences, doing artist residencies through them ranging from one day to six weeks.
